Creating my dream Workspace

Design and style should work toward making you look good and feel good without a lot of effort so you can get on with the things that matter. Fashion moves so quickly that, unless you have a strong point of view, you can lose integrity. Beauty is perfect in its imperfections, so you just have to go with the imperfections. My job is to bring out in people what they wouldn’t dare do themselves. I believe in comfort. If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes, it’s hard to think of anything else.

A lot of self-importance goes on in the fashion industry. I’m not like that. I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? I truly believe that philanthropy and commerce can work together. Attitude is everything. Money is the most corrosive aspect of life today because it means that all attention to detail is forgotten.

What I hate is nasty, ugly people. I remember walking the dog one day, I saw a car full of teenage girls, and one of them rolled down the window and yelled, ‘Marc Jacobs!’ in a French accent. Money is the most corrosive aspect of life today because it means that all attention to detail is forgotten. I believe in comfort. If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes, it’s hard to think of anything else. Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.

I am always locked in my design studio. It’s hard to balance everything. It’s always challenging. I am always locked in my design studio. I am no longer concerned with sensation and innovation, but with the perfection of my style. I like the body. I like to design everything to do with the body.

I want to thank all the women who have worn my clothes, the famous and the unknown, who have been so faithful to me and given me so much joy. All I did my first year at Vogue was Xerox. I never look at other people’s work. My mind has to be completely focused on my own illusions. I didn’t want to be a fashion designer, and for a good half of my career I didn’t like it. I always wanted to do other things. I get ideas about what’s essential when packing my suitcase.
